The term perilune refers to the point in a lunar orbit nearest the moon.
The music is an interpretation of a hypothetical research voyage around the moon by an international team of astronomers, aerospace engineers, and chemists. 
Tracking its path over several days, the speed decreased so that its perilune, or closest approach, would be reduced to about 45 kilometers above the surface of the moon. This distance would be the optimum altitude for collecting data. The original plan was to make an initial course around the moon at about 925 kilometers above the surface, allowing the space station to eventually move in an oval trajectory with a perilune of 45 kilometers. The material is the soundtrack to this mission.
